Hard not to read the situation metaphorically, Joan commented in his head.
Noah corrected her: not old. He was only seventy-nine, till next Monday. When he'd been young, your seventies had counted as old, but not these days. Say, youngish up to sixty; then middle-aged, or young-old, through the sixties and seventies. Ancient Romans used to distinguish between senectus (still lives) and decrepitus (done for). Sharp as ever, hale, hearty -- surely Noah could still count himself in the senectus camp?

My review . . . Murder seems to find bookstore owner and aspiring author Sam Washington wherever she goes. In the latest installment of the Mystery Bookshop series, Sam, Nana Jo, and their tight-knit group of friends from Shady Acres Retirement Village are returning from a shopping trip to Chicago when one of the bus passengers, an author who has snuggled up to the flirty Irma, is found dead in his seat. When the death is ruled a homicide, the bus driver and all other passengers are under suspicion. Who killed Max Franck and why? And as Sam, Nana Jo, and their band of sleuthing seniors attempt to answer these questions, danger strikes even closer to home as a second murder victim—Shady Acres resident Sarah Jane Howard—is discovered. Are the murders connected?
The feisty seniors turn up all sorts of helpful information through their small-town network, but it is up to Sam to make sense of it all. Sam turns to her tried and true method of writing to help her process the clues and her own thoughts about the crimes. As she develops the story line of her latest British historical cozy, her theory on the current murder investigation crystallizes. Will Sam be able to identify the killer before further harm befalls the residents of Shady Acres?
In the Mystery Bookshop series, Burns has created an inviting bookstore setting and cast of endearing family and neighbors who are devoted to each other through thick and thin. Their gregarious personalities and laugh-out loud antics add to the overall enjoyment of the reading experience.

It was never good when my grandmother included my middle name. Mid-thirties and I still cringed as much as I did as a kid. I snapped the book I was perusing closed and looked up. "What?"

56% of eBook: I tactfully questioned whether Irma's tumble down the stairs could have been an accident. After all, she did wear six-inch hooker heels on a daily basis, and it was possible she merely tripped.

My thoughts: It's a universal uh-oh moment—hearing one's full name said by a parent or grandparent. The immediate attention grabber is a good way to start a story.

My review . . . Seattleite Lana Hansen’s life is adrift. A disgraced investigative journalist, Lana is smarting from her recent divorce, underemployment, and precarious financial situation. When her landlady Dotty Thompson, owner of Wanderlust Tours, offers her a chance to cancel her rental debt by assisting with a tour, Lana is tempted but a tad reluctant. Is Dotty’s proposal the financial and career turning point Lana so desperately seeks? And is Lana up to the task? There is, of course, a small catch. Lana must join a tour already in progress, feign familiarity with places she's never visited, and pretend to be older. The 37-year-old Lana ultimately decides to accept the free trip to Budapest, adding gray highlights to her hair and studying up on local information to give the appearance of an experienced 50-year-old tour guide. What could go wrong?

Recent divorcee Lana Hansen needs a break. Her luck has run sour for going on a decade, ever since she got fired from her favorite job as an investigative reporter. When her fresh start in Seattle doesn’t work out as planned, Lana ends up unemployed and penniless on Christmas Eve.
Dotty Thompson, her landlord and the owner of Wanderlust Tours, is also in a tight spot after one of her tour guides ends up in the hospital, leaving her a guide short on Christmas Day.
When Dotty offers her a job leading the tour group through Budapest, Hungary, Lana jumps at the chance. It’s the perfect way to ring in the new year and pay her rent!
What starts off as the adventure of a lifetime quickly turns into a nightmare when Carl, her fellow tour guide, is found floating in the Danube River. Was it murder or accidental death? Suspects abound when Lana discovers almost everyone on the tour had a bone to pick with Carl.

Lana’s assignment is to fill in for an injured tour guide for the remaining six days of the trip, working with Carl Miller, the other tour leader who is known for his charming, slick personality. As Lana settles into her tour duties, Carl goes missing, and his body is later found afloat in the Danube. Was his death deliberate or accidental? The eclectic group of tourists, many of whom have had personal experiences with Carl, quickly fall into two categories: amateur sleuths and prime suspects, and it is up to Lana to use her investigative reporting skills to identify the guilty and save the tour from further mishaps.
Death on the Danube is an entertaining and enjoyable read.

Death on the Danube is the first book in the new Travel Can Be Murder cozy mystery series. It's an entertaining and enjoyable read that delivers the fun of solving a mystery on foreign soil while reading like a travelogue. The richly-detailed descriptions of historic

grand hotels—actually make readers feel as though they too are on the
tour. This book is ideal for those who enjoy travel and those who like
to travel vicariously.
